πŸ’¨ πŸ’¨ pastry

I love taking a risk and trying something new. Usually it takes a million tries to get something right, especially baking. And this baking endeavor is no different. Don’t get me wrong, I am trying this for the first time, but I am confident it’ll take a million times to master.

So I took a shot at making puff pastry. I am testing it out for my next dinner party (more on dinner parties in a later post). It surprisingly turned out decently. For those unfamiliar, puff pastry is a delicious, light and crispy pillow of heaven. I mean you’ve probably had it had a decently fancy spot or bakery served with cheese, fruit, veggies or something else on it. Picture for reference:

But even if you haven’t, just imagine hundreds of buttery, micro-thin layers that are perfectly browned and crispy to the bite.

I’ve always just purchased puff pastry in the frozen aisle for recipes. In my endless endeavor to make as much from scratch and challenge myself, I went for it. It is such a “basic” recipe. It was literally flour, butter, salt, and water. And while it takes hours, the end product is well worth it.

I know. I know it looks kind of like a biscuit. When you bite into it, it had deliciously thin layers. Of course I didn’t grab a cross section pic πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

I utilized The Spruce Eats’ recipe for mine, much thanks to them. And while the whole process took hours, it was actually very accessible imo and was not difficult. It just takes time and love, like most good food. Also, as mentioned, it only takes 4 ingredients. Yes, that’s right only 4 — flour, salt, butter, and water. That’s it.

I would highly recommend if you want a challenge and a delicious pastry or just a challenge to give this a go. Give yourself about a half day, all in all, to do it. But’s definitely worth it. I am using my puff for a take on the Mille Feuille. Picture for reference (link)
